NSW Commercial Building Code

On 8 May 2008, the NSW Government released the NSW Commercial Building Code for public comment, which outlines a simplification to the State's development approval system for some forms of commercial and industrial development and related ancillary developments.

The release of the NSW Commercial Building Code follows a comprehensive NSW government planning reform consultation process, including exhibition of a detailed discussion paper Improving the NSW planning system in November 2007.

The NSW Commercial Building Code provides a simple approval process for some forms of commercial and industrial development and related ancillary developments. The NSW Commercial Building Code establishes a clear compliance path for streamlining approvals for simple forms of common commercial and industrial developments and offers a number of significant benefits to applicants, including:

This first NSW Commercial Building Code document covers many relatively minor developments and changes of use such as simple fit-outs of shops and commercial office spaces that have little or no impact on other occupiers of commercial or industrial space. Over time, the NSW Commercial Building Code will be expanded through the release of subsequent codes.
