The Cities Taskforce project was announced in February 2006, as part of the NSW Government's Economic and Financial Statement [PDF]. It is designed to boost job, housing and lifestyle opportunities in regional cities across NSW. It will also help these cities become drivers of the NSW economy.
The Cities Taskforce project has to date delivered visions and detailed planning and civic improvement strategies for the six regional cities of Wollongong, Gosford, Parramatta, Penrith, Liverpool and Newcastle. Each of the city planning visions has been developed in partnership with the relevant local council.
The Cities Taskforce Project has won a major award [PDF] in the Urban Development Institute of Australia's NSW 2007 Awards for Excellence.
